Upon waking up and double checking our check out time and departure time we realized that we had read our schedule wrong. We found out that we left at 7 at night instead of the norming. We were a little frustrated, cause we would have redone the last of our week, added more to it, etc. I guess next time we'll just have to pay a little more attention. But we did want to go to the markets that they have there, and we were able to Saturday morning when they had one, so we were happy. They have people selling groceries/farm stuff, fresh fish, tons of souvenir shops, a bunch of random booths, and then people with food carts. So we first went to the Otara market. It was a little sketchy area, the same place when Adam was on his mission, and someone broke into their car stole his baptism pants and scriptures. Upon pulling in and walking around, I could totally see that happening there. Ha!
This guy was so random to me, but he was doing his thing. We also past a guy that was preaching about child abuse and Jesus. Very interesting.
We tried a lot of the food there. Adam was stoked to have a pork bun, it just was this yummy roll with pork in it. It was REALLY good. I was a fan.
We tried these meat on a stick things. One was chicken and the other was pork. We were fans.
He ended up getting this pork sandwich thing later too. I had some bites, but wanted more fish and chips before we left. So we hunted some down when we were done at the Otara market. We then went to the Mangere market and hit the very end of that buying me some lava lavas.
We loved this sign, cause it never told you what was happening on the roads, just that something was happening. It cracked us up, so we took a picture.
We did some geocaching before we headed home.
We passed this cute little burger and ice cream shop, and of course had to try it out cause we loved the name. Ollie was jealous when we told him about it. Plus we missed our kiddos, so it was fun to go to. And another excuse to eat ice cream before we left, I was in.
Mine was lemon cheesecake I think. Whatever it was, I loved it.
Our last stop before the airport was One Tree Hill. It's historical Maori landmark. It had all these facts about the people. There used to be a tree up there by the monument, thus calling it One Tree Hill, but during Adam's mission some crazy Maori guy (according to Adam) chopped it down. Our tour guide earlier in the week on the bus tour told us they were still debating about if they are going to replant a tree. We enjoyed the view, and the sheep.
Back to the airport
The lady next to us was crazy. She really was, she thought we were in Washington and other places. Her husband who was across the aisle had to politely keep correcting her.
Good bye NZ!
We had like a six hour lay over in San Fransisco. It was soooo long after a 13 hour flight from NZ. BUT we took advantage of it and "went out to eat" and one of the airport restaurants before we headed back home to life with the kids and hard to come by date nights. I was all about the clam chowder and salmon burger, and Adam just wanted a good ole American hamburger.
The cute sign and even cuter kids that we came home to.
Jet lag was rough the whole week after coming home, especially with kids that just wanted cuddles and to play.
Our yummy stash that didn't last long
Fun with souvenirs
Enjoying a Tim Tam Slam
