Time for the Cast to Come OFF!

Ollie ended up with his cast on one week longer than planned, cause they had to reschedule our appointment. So by the time it was ready to come off, it was pretty hashed and well worn. I took some pictures off all the fun signatures that he got. He was so proud of it and LOVED having people sign it. We ended up having way more family sign it than we ever thought would. We had Aunt Laurel, Uncle Travis, Levi, Carson's handprint traced, Nana, Aunt Michele, and Grandpa and Grandma Weiss. His school teacher Miss Lorilee signed, and Doctor B (Butterfield) his doctor signed. He had Everyone in our family, his own signature, his friends the Wadsworth kids, and the Ramsay twins draw pictures. He had pictures of a Ninja Turtle, a Lego Ninjago guy, 2 Smiley faces, a Truck, a gun, a Minion Gabe drew, lots of hearts Gabe drew everywhere on it, and his name in block letters. He also had a few random signatures from random people who asked to sign. After the saw it off they ask if you want to keep the cast. I said no, cause I wasn't sure what you would do with it. I kinda wish I would have now, just to look back on and see how small he was when it happened. Oh well, that's why I took so many pics.

Another set of X-rays to make sure it was healed enough o take the cast off. Luckily things look just great. Although at six weeks, 3 months, 9 months, and year he has to get check up x-rays to make sure that the bone isn't overgrowing and giving him what they call knock knees. It's where the bone grows too much on one side and makes his leg crooked. If that happens he gets surgery.
One the bottom of bone the super white part is where the new bone grew in.
I wish this picture wasn't blurry, but I still like it. It's the saw that they use to cut off the cast. The doc let Ollie touch it. He was excited to tell everyone after that he got to touch it.
And off it comes. Now, we didn't know what to expect. We brought his shoe with us assuming he'd walk out of there a little tight and sore with a limp, but walking none the less. We were so wrong. Hey, we're new to this broken bone business. Stitches sure, even a seizure I know what I'm supposed to to. We didn't know he'd be so sore and unable to move it, or walk for weeks. He was just bawling cause it hurt him so much. We felt so bad. The doc was a little worried for him too and offered to put a soft cast back on. We declined, and Ollie calmed down after the first initial freak out. We did have to get signed up for an outpatient physical therapist to come to our house and teach us exercises to do with him for the next few weeks.
He really couldn't walk on it for a few weeks. It didn't hurt him, it just was super weak. You could physically see how much smaller the muscles were in his weak leg. We had a few people ask if we were just babying him about it. That was annoying. Oh well. The doc told us not to force him to do anything on it, and he had physical restrictions for jumping and running for three weeks. Not that we was up for any of that. I'm glad he had his Dad to help him, cause he was a lot better at getting him to try walking on it and other stuff. Once he could walk on it, we had to make sure he turned his leg forward. He would turn it out, cause that's how he was used to dragging it around when he crawled with it in his cast. So it was kinda a lot of work. BUT as of now a month later he is doing awesome. We are bummed we couldn't get him to play soccer. We finally had him convinced to do it it. :( Oh well as long as x-rays look good the rest of the year we are good to go! Hurray for no more cast!
