Happy St Paddy's Day

As promised to Gabe, we made some cupcakes the Friday before the holiday. I knew we had plans to do errands and other stuff Saturday, so I knew we wouldn't have time to do it that day. Gabe loves cupcakes, even though the rest of us don't care too much for them. We did decide to make the yummy green lime ones that we liked and made last year. Even though the only cupcake wrappers I had were Valentines themed. Ha! I guess we LOVE St. Patrick's day. The kids were of course excited to help and sample as they go. I know I have put baking pictures up recently, but this was part of our holiday so here you go.

I read somewhere on Pinterest that the true Irish can tell you aren't Irish if you call it St PaTTy's day. They call it St PaDDy's day. I think that is extremely silly, especially since it doesn't sound like it'd be short for Patrick, but it was Pinterest so who even knows. Maybe it's just the accent thing? I also looked up St Patty's day stories and folklore on google, cause I realized I kinda didn't know that much about it. I just remember you wear green from growing up. I figured that I had better come up with some good stuff, cause Gabe is at an understanding age, and asks a MILLION questions about everything she can. I didn't focus too much on Leprechauns sneaking into our house and being naughty and trying to catch them this year. I think next year I'll start that. We did that growing up, and loved to try to catch the sneaky little guys. I concentrated more on having a lucky good day, and wearing green so we didn't get pinched. She loved pinching and re-pinching us all day. I also did another breakfast theme. It was kinda like our V-day stuff, but knowing we didn't have time for anything else that day, breakfast it was. Also half of my kitchen stuff is packed, so we ended up with some lucky charm cereal, and green scrambled eggs, with green apple juice boxes. I decorated the table and Ollie noticed the decorative candy and helped himself to half of those while I cooked in the kitchen.

Gabe was concerned she had no green to wear. She really doesn't have one green thing right now, but I bought some fun trinkets that she was sooo happy to sport all day. I guess the nice thing about shopping for holiday stuff late, is that what you can find ends up being so cheap and on sale, and it really just makes a kid's day. Well most kids. Ollie liked them the first few minutes and was over it. Gabe wore hers until bed, even on our errands. I also painted our finger nails green, the only color in my make up basket that I didn't have packed. Convenient huh? She made sure our pinching war lasted all day too.

I made the leprechaun hats from pinterest and stuffed them with rolos and mint hershey's kisses. I could never find chocolate gold pieces anywhere. They were supposed to look like Leprechaun hats. (they were just cheap rubbermaid containers) Man I love that website. It makes being creative on holidays SO easy.

I asked Adam to take some pictures of her once she was dressed. We could never get Ollie to put his stuff back on to take pictures. He did wear a green shirt though. Anyway, this is what I got: A bunch of fun silly faces.

With a lot of our stuff packed up, Adam and I both found it tricky to find green to wear too. Luckily I bought a pack of clover tattoos and we all stuck them on our hands. There were a lot in the pack, so we'll probably wear them for years to come. Ollie wanted one too, and five minutes later freaked about getting it off his hand. So I got to scrub it off. Not so fun, but we were glad we had something that passed Gabe's green inspections.

Gabe made sure Daddy got some silly faces in too. Hope everyone else's green day was as lucky as ours.
