Tuesday morning we woke up and found out that it had poured rain all night long and a lot of places were flooded. We weren't sure we wanted to try hiking that day. Adam did have a surfing lesson scheduled for 9 at Wailua beach. We woke up and had to call the guy to make sure we even had a lesson, cause we hadn't heard from him. He told us yes we had one, to meet him at the beach at nine. His name was Nephi. :) This beach isn't used much by locals or tourists. It doesn't have good swimming or snorkeling for the tourists, cause the riptide is too strong. It's not strong enough for experienced surfers, but for people just learning it is perfect. So we pretty much had the beach to ourselves. This was the only beach that reminded Adam of California. The sand on the beach and no coral in the water. When we showed up there was another couple there, and the husband was going to learn too. They were from Chicago and really nice. Their daughter had advised going to the Kauai island, cause she thought it'd be perfect for them. When talking to Nephi later, he told me he thought he'd have to cancel the lesson, but when he came down to the beach it had the best waves that'd he'd seen all week. We got lucky.
They teach new people on long boards, cause they aren't as squirly to ride.He taught them how to stand on their boards before they got in the water. According to Adam, you pretty much lay on your stomach and do a push up to get up. I was very impressed by how quickly Adam got up. I think he was up on his second try. He was that way learning to wake board with my family too, so I wasn't surprised. He was kinda a natural. The other guy struggled for a bit, but eventually got it down as well.
Time to head into the waves. I tried posting movie slips, but no matter what I do, blogger won't let me post them! Lame.
This is the other teacher guy, whose name we never got. He would go out in the water with them and coach them from there.
He had his fair share of wipe outs, but he usually was up. After a while they just let Adam do his own thing and worked with the other guy. Adam loved it. He would have done it more if he could have. His knee got pretty scrapped up riding it though.
The longer they were out there, the bigger the waves started getting. It was really fun to watch. I was jealous that I didn't do it. Adam wanted to get me a lesson too, but I told Adam the next time he can go out with me, I'd like to learn. I wouldn't want to try by myself, cause the ocean makes me nervous, but if he was there I wanna do it. Another trip another time. They let them ride for a while. He was out there for about two hours. He was tired not being used to it.
This is Nephi on the beach, and he'd coach as they came in, and give pointers. He would tease them about certain things, it was fun banter. They teased Adam he'd flap his arms when he was getting up.
Milo passed out while we were watching. He was a little fussy, but only for a minute. It was nice, cause I could relax and enjoy watching. I tried getting a picture of Daddy in the back ground of us.
This is "the water coach". He was funny. Adam laughs at how pasty-white he looks next to him. These boards were huge.
Guess Milo is destined to grow up to try this. We joked he'll be our beach goer, cause we put it in his head at such a young age. Although Gabe may beat him at that, she LOVES the beach. Ollie hasn't decided if he loves it yet. Guess we need a trip there soon to make sure they all love it.
After surfing we went looking for lunch. We accidentally ended up in this shopping center. We pulled in to turn around, and decided to stay. We saw they had a farmers market set up, and we planned on getting some fruit after lunch, but there were already closed when we went back. :( We are happy we found the shopping though, it was great. We did a bunch of shopping here, and my coconut shrimp was super good. We also got our first Hawaiian Ice. The shaved ice that has ice cream in it. SOOO good. It's a big thing over there, and there are shops for it every where. And no matter where you went, they were huge. We shared them every time we got them. Adam didn't like his fish and chips as well as the first place we tried.

If we didn't put food in his mouth fast enough, he'd put his foot in his mouth.
We did some sight seeing at scenic view points while Milo took at nap in the car. We talked about going north to see some things, but it was rainy again and traffic was nuts. We stayed local. The Kauai island is supposedly one of the only ones that has big rivers on it.
This was one of the main roads back to our hotel. It has eucalyptus trees growing up and over the road like a canopy/tunnel. It was soooo cool to drive through.
This was at a state park. It has the Wailua Falls. It was beautiful. We would have stayed longer to enjoy, but it was rainy.
I love palm trees. Always have, always will. Some pretty views with these trees everywhere. They definitely make you feel like you're on vacation.
These are the Opaeka'a Falls. They weren't as big, but the green around them was beautiful. We headed back to the hotel to get showered and cleaned up. This was one of the only nights we didn't have a dinner appointment, so it was nice to just take our time and do our own thing. Adam tried unsuccessfully to find some caches on our way to eat. They were a little tricky in a jungle setting.
We ended up at Bubba's for dinner. It was a burger joint. It wasn't as good as we would have liked. All the workers kinda had this snotty attitude, which people like. We weren't impressed. It was nice change up to have a burger though. We were over fries though. Everything fish, burger, came with fries. We didn't want any more.
Milo slept through dinner, making it that much more stress free.
When we got back to the hotel we went for a walk. We ended up finding a guy's wallet out by the pool and took it to the lobby. We ended up finding out later he was with the Edward Jones group too. Poor guy, that would suck to loose that. While in the lobby they had a hula show going on, so we watched for a while. We went back to the room, put Milo to bed, and planned to watch a movie, but we both feel asleep fast. :)
