Ollie's 18 Month Check Up (1 month late)

We had Ollie's 18 (19) month check up today. We moved it back to April, because he only had one shot left to get until he goes to school, but it had to be a certain amount of time from his last shots. So instead of paying for two appointments, his doctor told us to come in April. So today it was. Can I just tell you after our stitches experience, Ollie hates doctors. He doesn't love it. They just make him soooo nervous. He really had this terrified look on his face the whole time, and is almost in tears at certain points. He was a trooper though and did okay. He did not want to be touched. Every time the doctor or nurse did, he would shove their hands off him. He finally got better towards the end, and then he got his shot. Ha! Bummer.

I really do like his doctor. I love the information that she gives, and how much time she spends with us in an appointment answering questions. She sends me home with all sorts of info as well. Pretty nice. Anyway, even though our Ollie boy is growing like a weed, it's not so much his weight. He weighs 27 pounds, which is around the 63 percentile. He is only a few pounds lighter than Gabe. (according to our home scale-Gabe's 4 yr appoint is next month so we'll see) His Length has shot up like crazy. At his 16 month appointment he had, he was in the 75 percentile for his height. NOW he is in the 91 percentile. He shot up like crazy. He is 34 inches long. He's pretty tall for his age right now. His head is also large and round in the 98 percentile. He's always had a bigger head, hope he grows into it some day. I had to fill out an Autism questionnaire as well, he passed that with flying colors. We talked about sleeping, behavior, language, etc. Everything looked great. Even though he refuses to spout words left and right like his sister did and still does, he does know a lot more words than is recommended for his age. He also makes up his own signs for things, which is good as well. She thought it was funny that he kinda refuses to learn the words we want him to, and teaches himself stuff like napkin and bib. Silly boy.

At every appointment they send you home with growth milestone papers with information. It was amazing to me to see part of it talk about looking for potty training readiness between 18 and 24 months. Dang, don't feel ready for that, even though he does seem intrigued by it. As much as I would love having him out of diapers when baby is here, I'm not about to attempt that until I know he's ready. It talked about appetite diminishing, which made me feel better, cause his has. She also talked to me about his oral hygiene and having no flouride in the water here. So he and Gabe get to take fluoride tablets until their permanent teeth come in. Kinda nice, hopefully that will help prevent horrible teeth. Now we just need to get dentist stuff set up in the next little while for them both. Anyway, there is the latest and the greatest for our little man.

I don't blame him for not loving doctors after the stitches. That was a very traumatic visit for all of us, and especially him! I'm glad he's growing so well.

Oh man, this makes me feel like a bad mommy. Ains hasnt had a dr. appt since she turned 1. I need to get on that.
Nice to know he's growing well. Even if his head is in the 98% it doesnt look it compared to his body. He has good proportions.
