Well, our monthly stay with our teenager house guest is over. We now have our house back to ourselves which is a little weird to get used to.... but SOOO nice. We were afraid that his stay would get extended longer than a month, so when we took him in, we agreed we would let him stay a month. If it were to go longer, we planned on working something else out. So when we got news that it would be about another month, we knew we couldn't do it. We have family coming into town, we couldn't afford it, and we have a trip at the beginning of May. We worried that it could even get extended into May. The sad thing about the whole situation, is that he has no family that wanted him. We know this, cause we talked to his dad, and his grandparents that live here. Even an Ex Stepmom that used to want custody of him, now wants to not have to deal with him either. (Kolby's mom died of cancer, so she's not in the picture) It's not cause of Kolby either, his family really are all kind of worthless. I feel like I can say that, cause I took him in our home and found out all about everything. We (us, our bishop, and other ward members) wanted someone in his family to take responsibility for him. He has family in Utah that wants him there. So his dad and the guy from our ward that he was living with in the house getting fixed, decided to send him to Utah for two weeks until the house was done. Even though they have no idea how long the house will take, cause everything is getting sent over Donner's pass, and it's been snowing. Snow means delays. So they told Kolby his trip to Utah will be for two weeks, one week being Spring break. If he knew it might be longer, he probably wouldn't go, because of his girlfriend. In Utah he has his other grandpa, and an Aunt and Uncle with cousins his age that we know want him there. (Our bishop talked to them). Anyway, so after a lot of Drama, and the saddest situation! It was like this bitter sweet situation. As much as we wanted to keep helping him, we had to put our family needs first. We hope that things in his life will work out for him. This kid deserves a break. He has a good heart, and a lot of potential. We hope he figures things out. So even though he had some quirks we didn't love, we're grateful for the experience.
The last week he was with us, we tried to do things he would enjoy. Adam got him into geocaching, so they did a bunch of that. One outing being along the bike trail by the Truckee River. Gabe participated in that outing, meaning they stopped to play in the water.

What an awful situation for this boy to be in. I'm sure he'll be forever grateful that yall took the time to have him in your home for a while.
Sometimes it feels like those who really deserve a break can't seem to find one - I hope Kolby enjoys being with his family. That is the best thing for him, even if he doesn't realize it now.
I hope Kolby finds somewhere he can be loved and feel as though he has a family and support. You guys are so awesome to take him into your home and give him a taste of what it could and should be like.
You guys are awesome people. I couldn't do it with a baby. You're far better people than most.
Gabe sure has that adorable head cock perfected. I do it too. :) Looking at the picture you'd think that was the most amazing rock ever from her face. :)
