13 Days of Halloween: WITCH day

I love Pinterest. I really do, and even though my boards are chalk full of stuff that I will NEVER get around to doing (only hoping maybe someday I will), I do use and try a lot of things on there. I also LOVE the holidays. Any holiday really. I love making them fun for my kids, because such simple things are so easy to please kids with. I don't mind going out of my way to make one holiday that falls on one day of a month SUPER fun for them. When I saw 13 days of Halloween on Pinterest, I fell in love with the idea. Now going out of my way to make 13 days + Halloween fun, I wasn't sure if I was up for the task. I decided that I would try it out. Maybe I just feel like I've been this slacker mom being pregnant and giving a baby lots of attention lately. I felt a need to have fun with my other two kiddos. Plus Ollie is in a really big feeling left out stage with Gabe doing fun things at Preschool and having play dates, and baby needing and getting so much attention. I'm out to make his holidays fun for him, even if he isn't into it all like Gabe would be. Even though her being there makes it so much more exciting for him. Or maybe I just love the idea. Whatever the reason, I decided that I would give it a shot. I would adapt as I go, and adjust things for us. 

The idea behind this is a 13 day count down to Halloween. The number 13 being chosen, cause it's a superstitious-spooky number. Very fitting. Also each day would have a theme. Your kids flip over the pumpkin, and see a picture of something, and you do stuff that day related to the picture. I hope I'm making sense. This woman had ideas for serve projects, to crafts, links to coloring pages or preschool learning packs, baking, etc. Plus you add Pinterest on top of that, and the ideas are limitless really. I made a board just for it actually. Anyway we started this project today. So today I had them choose pumpkin number one, I know it doesn't count down, but I put the wrong pictures on the numbers and was too lazy to change them especially with them laminated. We also aren't doing it consecutively either, cause days with Preschool and Activity Days are already too random. So here is how day one went.......

 

When I explained this first to Gabe she didn't quite get it. Once we finished today, she already can't wait for the next day and to see what we get to do. Day one theme: WITCH (kinda fun for Gabe cause she chose to be one for Halloween this year)

 

Most of my days have some kind of printable in them, cause the kids love to color, and it's easy to just print them off.

We made a Witch's brew with Monster scabs, Witch warts, Goblin teeth, and Ghost Poop. Gabe couldn't stop laughing at the last one. (or cinnamon chex cereal, choc chips, candy corn which my kids both liked, and mini marshmallows.) We mixed it all together and I let them munch on it while we read one of my FAVORITE Halloween books, "Room on the Broom". Not every day has a book, but lucky for us over the years I've bought Halloween books that are themed, and I bought a few this year. Love me some fun books to read with the kiddos, especially Holiday ones. I have themed books for most holidays. Getting them in time from the library is super hard. There is a high demand for holiday books. So every year I buy one or two new ones.

 

 

They then had races/or flew on their "brooms". Gabe liked the swiffer mop better.

 

For a service I had them actually help clean my floors. (some service you do for other people or give stuff away-in the future we might try that. For now, they get to help mom)

 

For lunch I made them Witch sandwiches. This was AMAZING to Gabe. She told me I am so cool, and good at making witch sandwiches.  ;)  I got the idea off pinterest, but adapted it to what I had on hand.  Mine wasn't as cute as theirs, but hopefully you can see a witch there. 

 After the boys were asleep, Gabe and I watched Disney's Once upon a Halloween. She thought it was great I watched it with her. It had witch stuff in it. Here's hoping the rest of the days go just as smooth. Some days only have a few things, and I made sure most of the stuff I had on hand, or it was cheap so we didn't spend a lot. Happy 13 days all!
